This is my story. A few years ago one of my turbos went out and the other was on it's last leg. So, I was told the whole motor needed to come out to replace the turbos, So the motor was over 100k and I thought if I had it out get the motor rebuilt also. It cost me $1,000 to have it removed and $3500.00 for the rebuild. $2400 for new turbos and I thought I was good to go. Oh another $1,000 to put it back in.While it was being removed someone broke out the rear window and side window to steal my $100.00 radio.I felt the owner of the shop was responsible as it was on his property and in his care. He wanted me to scrap the car as it was not worth the cost of the windows. I told him I was rebuilding the motor and had bought new turbos and I was going to restore a car that was not made anymore. He was not happy but replaced the windows. As such I went to another place to have the motor removed.
Motor was rebuilt by a reputable machine shop. I had the motor installed by the place that took it out. Said I needed a new engine wiring harness as the old was was brittle and the plastic was breaking on connectors. So, bought that ,and 3 new injectors he said I needed and new knock sensor. These items were not included in the prices I gave above. After 2 months of installation I got the car back. It would not pass California smog but got it through some how???Anyway changed oil after 200 miles, bought a magnet for the oil filter and never got on it, was breaking it in easy. at the 3400 miles it started smoking my temp gauge went from normal to pegged in 30 seconds and shut off the car. I had never even kicked in the turbos yet, but it died. I paid a different shop $800.00 to find out what went wrong and he said it got lean and burned a hole through the head and piston. After over $10k I got 3400 miles out of it. Now just want to get it running and sell it. Put to much time and $$$ into it. Been laughed at a lot but all I did was give everyone $$$ to make my car work.
That is why I want a used motor and sell it.
